David: Question: What molding found on drawer fronts is also the name of a barnyard animal? (a) Bull nose (b) Lamb's tongue (c) Cock bead
Answer: (c) Cock bead. Cock bead molding dates from the 18th century. It protected the front of a veneered drawer from damage and also added a shadow line around the drawer front, giving it depth. A cock bead is a strip of wood about 1/16" to 1/8" thick applied around the face of an inset drawer. The front of the strip projects about 1/16" forward from the face of the drawer and is rounded over into a half-circle—a bead shape.
